May Ferne Harris

May Ferne Harris 1938 - 2006 After a 10 month struggle with Liver Cancer, Ferne passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of January 17, 2006, surrounded by those that love her and will miss her everyday. Ferne was born in Dorchester Cape, NB on May 6, 1938 to Elmer and Grace (Hopper) Buck. In 1958 she married Allan and for 47 years they remained best friends. Ferne attended Moncton High School and Teacher's College. She spent several years teaching in several Moncton area schools. She also had a brief career selling real estate for Reliable Realty. In later years, Ferne and Al opened Elmo's Family Restaurant on the Coverdale Road. She loved the friends she made and you could always count on a friendly welcome from her when you walked into Elmo's and she often said she missed the people when they retired from the restaurant business in 2002. After retirement, you would often see Ferne and Al at the hockey rink watching their grandchildren play hockey even as her illness was taking over. Family was the most important thing to Ferne, a value she instilled in her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Allan, she is survived by daughters, Mary Harris (Blaine Brooks) of Oakville, Ontario and Shirley and Kevin Simkins of Moncton. She also had two beautiful grandchildren who she loved and enjoyed so very much - granddaughter, Grace Simkins and grandson, Scott Simkins. Ferne's brothers and sisters and their families were her dearest friends. She is survived by brother Bedford Buck and his wife, Ruth and brother, Arthur Buck, both of Riverview as well as sister, Shirley Dallin and her husband, Norman of Riverview and sister, Gracie Hankinson and her husband, Jim of Toronto, Ontario. She is also survived by her Mother-in-law, Connie Taylor and her husband George of Riverview. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly, especially those who spent some special time with her as her time drew near - she loved your visits. She will also be missed by close family friend, Eddie Wood. She is predeceased by her parents; brother, Bill Buck and his wife, Jeane and sister-in-law, Ruth Buck as well as three sisters and one brother in infancy. The family will be receiving friends at Fair Haven Funeral Home, Salisbury Road, Moncton on Thursday, January 19, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. A celebration of Ferne's life will be held on Friday, January 20 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Morehouse and Pastor Richard Jackson officiating.
