The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Thursday, March 5, 2009, of Martha Lurene Matheson (nee Vickerson), wife of the late Gordon, of Rennies Road, age 90. Martha was the dear mother of Vernon (Bernice) Matheson, Shirley Christiner and Heather (Floyd) Ford; and the loving grandmother of Arlene (Neil) Proude, Brent (Renee) Christiner and Laura (Jeremy) MacNevin. She will be lovingly remembered by great-grandchildren, Krystal (David Bernard), Katelyn and Gordon Proude; Kyla Christiner; Grace and Gavin MacNevin; and her great-great-grandchild, Jaden Proude. Besides her husband, Gordon, Martha was predeceased by her parents, Bertha and Stafford Vickerson; her grandchildren, Gordon, Darlene and Walter Matheson; her sisters, Ella Jewel and Marjorie Clow; her brothers, Jim Vickerson and Robert Vickerson; and her son-in-law, Ralph Christiner. Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, for visitation on Sunday, March 8, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Hunter River Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 9 at 2 p.m. Interment later in the church cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Martha’s memory to the Hunter River Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
