VATER, John William (Jack) – (76) Passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, with family and friends at his side. Born in Pouch Cove, NL, he was the son of the late Robert and Alice Vater. Following his retirement in 1988 from the Government of Canada, Department of Veterans Affairs, Jack moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Jack was at his happiest when he was planning his next trip. Throughout his life, he traveled the world making long-lasting friendships wherever he went. Jack loved a good party. His family and friends are blessed with many warm memories of good times spent in his company. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Olive, Margaret, Emma and brother Robert (Junior). He is survived by his sister, Hazel (St. John's), brothers Harold (Alice) (Pouch Cove) and Doug (Halifax), several nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Cremation has taken place. At Jack's request his ashes will be brought home to Pouch Cove, where a memorial service and burial will occur at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family at djvater@eastlink.ca.
