Helen Durette 1931-2006 HOPEWELL CAPE, N.B - Helen Durette, 75, of Hopewell Cape, N.B. passed away on Saturday, July 8th, 2006 at the Moncton Hospital, following a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. Seven of her eight children were by her side during this time. Helen was born in Moncton on January 1st, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Jeanette (Patriquin) Mellish. Helen took great pride in her family and her main purpose in life was always being there for them. She was a devoted wife to her husband Ed who passed away 10 years ago. They were married 48 years. In her earlier years she along with Ed owned and operated convenience stores and a furniture store as well as a Deli. Helen was known for her great cooking. She also enjoyed sewing, painting and fishing. She will be deeply missed by her five daughters, Maxine Mainville (Tom) of Hillsborough, Candace Jonah (Brian) of Moncton, Kathy Curwin (Dave) of Riverview, Veronica Jardine (Dale) of Moncton, Tanya Tingley (Bruce) of Riverview; her three sons, Bernie Durette (Nicki) of Ottawa, Ont., Brock Durette (Fran) of Hopewell Cape, Drake Durette (Lori) of Moncton; one sister, Victoria Chase of Truro, N.S.; five brothers, Robert Mellish (Janice) of Halifax, N.S., Alvin Mellish of Moncton, Herman Mellish (Arloene) of California, James Mellish (Doris) of Lower Coverdale, Charles Mellish (Vicki) of Caledon, Ont.; her precious 22 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. Helen will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant daughter Delila and by a brother George. Honoring Helen's own wishes, there will be no visitation as cremation will be left in care of Albert County Funeral Home. There will be a Memorial Service held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 12th at 2pm. The family welcomes all friends to the service as well as a gathering following with food and refreshments to share memories of Mom. The family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Li, Dr. Assi and all the staff on 6600 and especially Palliative Care for their kindness and care given to Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society, ALS Society or the Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated. Helen was a very special lady who will never be forgotten.
