George Elliott Holmes 1939 - 2006 George E. Holmes of Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, following a lengthy illness. Born on April 30, 1939 in Fredericton, NB Son of the late George F. and Mary E. (Elliott) Holmes. George was a self-made businessman. Among his endeavors were owner and operator of Tilden Rent-A-Car franchises in the Maritimes. Director and operator of Tilden Rent-A-Car Canada Ltd. Owner and operator of several automotive dealerships. He was named Time magazine Quality Automobile Dealer for New Brunswick in 1974. Other affiliations include chairman of Chrysler Dealer Council; President and Campaign Chairman of United Way; President Moncton Chamber of Commerce; President NB Auto Dealers Association; member of dealer licensing board NB. Co founder of Greater Moncton Foundation; member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA; Vice Chairman of the NB Hawks board of directors. Owner and director of Wades Fishing Lodge; Chairman and director of Atlant Air; commercial pilot; member of Rotary, Elk and Moncton Club Ltd; and most recently, president of City Leaseway (1997) Ltd., Ammon Developments Ltd., and vice president Mapleton Place Developments. He was an avid outdoorsman with his biggest passion for salmon fishing. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce (Purdy); one son Kim (Byron Mena) of Montreal; and two daughters Roxanne (Jerry BeLong), and Shelley Wood (Mike); grandsons Brenden and Connor Wood; brother Robert ( Irene ) all of Moncton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Sunday, November 12th from 2 to 4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 13th, 2006, at The Wesleyan Church 945 St. George Blvd Moncton. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
