Corey O'Brien
Corey O'Brien LANGLEY, BC - It is with profound sadness that we mark the passing of Corey on November 25th 2006. An artist, writer and musician, he was a warm and loving young man. Ambitious and creative at an early age Corey loved to learn and was excited about the world around him. Corey's Mom, Kate O'Brien and Grandmother, Helen O'Brien; Stepdad, Craig Davies and Uncles, Ron, Gary, Rick and Len O'Brien and their families are heart broken and will carry the memory of Corey with them forever. Corey loved children and they loved this gentle, caring big guy who knew how to do everything they found fascinating. He had the rare combination of creativity and athletic prowess. As a skilled athlete he played soccer, baseball, rugby and tennis at a very accomplished level. Corey loved to snowboard, ski and was a bit of a dare-devil on his skateboard. He demonstrated a high level of achievement in his scholastic years as well, winning a national Skills Canada competition for animation while in high school. Corey's passion for animation led to a position at Electronic Arts and at seventeen years old was nominated for the Rookie of the Year award there. Sharing was as important to Corey as knowledge and he enjoyed teaching others. At fifteen he was teaching seniors how to navigate the internet, as an instructor for a Youth and the Net program. At eighteen he was instructing students in animation courses at Van Arts College. Corey was a joy to Kate, they enjoyed the happiest of times together while he was growing up in Moncton, Mission and Abbotsford. Their most joyous memories are at the cottage by the ocean in New Brunswick with Grandma, swimming at Cultus Lake and weekends skiing in B.C. in perfect powder. We have lost an amazing, bright young man and that is a tragedy but we were blessed with him in our lives for twenty five years and those memories can never be taken away from us. Kate would be grateful to receive cards to know you are remembering Corey, at 200 - 20408 Douglas Crescent, Langley V3A 4B4. In lieu of flowers a donation to the B.C. Schizophrenia Society in Corey's name would be appreciated. Kate invites all of Corey's friends and hers to a celebration of his life at the Cascades Convention Centre, 20393 Fraser Highway in Langley, on Wednesday, December 13th at 1:00pm.
