Andrew MacKay 1925 - 2007 STELLARTON, NS - Andrew MacKay, 81, Stellarton, NS, passed away peacefully at home with family on Thursday January 4, 2007. Andrew was the son of the late Mowatt and Mary Belle (Fraser) MacKay of Riverton, NS. Andrew is survived by sons, Wayne (Gayle), Fredericton NB, Robert (Joan), Calgary, AB; grandsons, Andrew and Michael, Fredericton NB, Christopher and Ryan, Calgary, AB; sisters, Anna MacKay, Riverview, NB, Evelyn Van't Riet, White Rock, BC and Jean Kerr, Riverton, NS; brother-in-law, Jack Kerr, Riverton, NS; special cousins, Lillian MacKay, Truro, NS, Jim Fraser, Plymouth, NS, Bernadette Fraser, Barrie ON and Alex Fraser, Tusket, NS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Bunnie) MacKay (Thompson) on April 24 1986; brothers, Frank, James, Robert, Walker; and sisters, Helen McIntosh, Laura MacQueen, Marjorie MacKay, Mary Settle and Maude Wood. Andrew was born on October 2, 1925 and grew up on the family farm in Riverton and lived all his adult life in Stellarton. He worked for JJ Collie and sons, Pictou County Power Board and NS Power Corporation. He retired from NS Power Corporation after 25 years in 1986 after the death of his beloved wife of 40 years, Bunnie. Andrew will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his generous nature and his willingness to help his family, friends and community. He was a humble man who gave freely of his time to anybody who was in need of assistance. He will be missed by many for his talents as a handyman and his eagerness to tinker and fix anything mechanical. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Andrew was a faithful and highly respected member of Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton where he served on the Board of Stewards, was a member of the Board of Trustees and a member of the Session. Andrew also taught Sunday School for a number of years. He was a member of Western Star Masonic Lodge No. 50, St, John's Chapter No.8 Royal Arch Masons Malta Preceptory Knight Templars. No. 27 and Philae Shriners. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 28, Stellarton. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton Saturday, January 6 from 7 to 9pm and Sunday January 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Western Star Lodge No. 50 will hold a Masonic service Sunday at 6:45pm. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 8 at 1pm at Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton with the Rev. John Roy officiating. A reception will be held in the Church hall following the memorial service. Burial will follow at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Andrew may be made to Sharon St. John United Church, or a charity of your choice.
