Gregory Thomas Darke 1947 - 2007 DEER ISLAND, NB - Unexpectedly at his residence on Deer Island on January 4, 2007, Mr. Gregory Thomas Darke, beloved husband of Barbara Ann (Calder) Darke of Lambertville NB. Born at Eastport ME. On June 15, 1947 he was a son of Alice (Adams)(Darke) Mcvicar and the late William Darke. A loving husband, father, son and brother he is survived besides his wife, Barb; by one daughter, Victoria (Evan) Smith of Fredericton NB; mother, Alice (Milton) McVicar of Bonny River NB; one brother, Allison Darke of Lambertville NB; two sisters, Elizabeth Darke of Lambertville NB and Donna (Russ) Crosby of Fredericton NB as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Greg was employed by the Department of Transportation as a deck hand on the Deer Island Ferries for a number of years. At one time he was a supply teacher teaching at both Deer Island and St. George. He also was a Vietnam Veteran serving a tour of duty in Vietnam in the late 1960's with the U.S Marine Corps as well as Midway Island. Greg also was active in his community serving as a firefighter with the Deer Island Fire Department and a member of the Church of Christ in Lords Cove. Greg also was a Shriner and a member of the Abanaki Lodge #55 F & AM as well as the O.E.S Granite Chapter # 15 in St. George. Although there will be no visiting, there will be a Masonic and O.E.S tribute service at the St. George Funeral Home on Monday beginning at 7:00 PM. A Graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery on Deer Island on Tuesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Glen Cox officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Kidney Foundation or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
