Vernon S. Bishop 1923 - 2007 Vernon Stanley Bishop, 83, of Allison passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital, Tuesday, February 5, 2007 following a lengthy illness. Born in Lewisville May 21, 1923 he was the son of the late Stanley and Edith (Fraser) Bishop. A veteran of the Second World War, Vernon served with the 7th Battery, 5th Medium Regiment, RCA throughout the European campaign. Following five years of overseas service, on his return to Moncton he began work as a mason at the CN Shops where he remained until retirement in 1980. He was a member of the CN Pensioners' Association, Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch #6 and a 50 year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Our dad had a great love for hunting and fishing and enjoyed tinkering in his basement workshop. Some of the best times were spent in earlier years at the cottage and later years traveling and camping. Of course his greatest pleasure was sharing in what was happening in the lives of his family. Vernon will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 64 years Violet (Whitehand); son, Vernon J. (Mary), Hampton, NB; daughter, Barbara (Donald) Clarkin, Allison, NB; grandchildren, Mark (Chantal) Bishop, Barrie, ON; Liann (Garth) Trainor, Hampton, NB; Kristen Clarkin, Hamilton, ON; and his great grandchildren Shannon, Justin, Kassandra and Kyle. Also surviving are sisters Joyce (John) Fowler, Ottawa, ON and Vera Leaman, Moncton, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Pearl. You can rest easy now dad and be sure that we won't take any wooden nickels! By request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A family grave side service will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. In remembrance donations to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital or memorial of choice would be appreciated by the family.
