Harry Edwin Wathen

Harry Edwin Wathen 1929 - 2007 LUNENBURG, NS - We are saddened to announce the sudden and tragic death of Harry Edwin Wathen of Lunenburg, N.S. Harry was born in Moncton on August 10, 1929 to the late Harry Burton Wathen and Helen (Kierstead) Wathen. As those who loved him and knew him well can attest, he was a man who lived life to the fullest. Harry had varied interest and experiences. He loved to travel and had done so extensively in Europe, Latin America and the Orient. One of his greatest joys was to share these experiences with family and friends. He was a history buff, loved old movies, Broadway shows, and was a voracious reader. In his early twenties Harry started his own very successful sales and import/export business which today is owned and run by his daughter and son-in-law. While raising his family in Saint John, N.B., he was very active in community and church affairs as a Scout master and member of the Chamber of Commerce and was an avid curler. He loved the outdoors and spent much time with his family on his boat and fishing at the family camp in New Brunswick. After moving to Nova Scotia in his seventies, Harry began a new adventure raising a second family in Amherst and later in Halibut Bay. Family time was divided between Halifax and Florida where new friends were made and wonderful experiences shared. For the last fifteen years he has been a well known and respected member of the community of Lunenburg, N.S. and for the last six was happily married to Judith Bourgeois Wathen. He will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Ellen Wathen and her husband Peter Goforth, Lunenburg; son, Burton Wathen and wife Jane Theman, Bologna, Italy; adopted children, Nadine Wathen and husband Donald MacLean, London, ON and Mark Wathen and wife Joanne Gautier, Montreal and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. #3, Lunenburg and from where funeral service to celebrate Harry's life will be held on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
