Roger Calvin Mills 1911-2008 SACKVILLE- Roger Calvin Mills, 96, a resident of the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, and formerly of Point du Chene, passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Thursday January 3, 2008. Born at Chignecto Mines, Nova Scotia on October 2, 1911. He was the son of the late Calvin and Rebecca (Ripley) Mills. He worked in many capacities as part-owner of the family business, The Record Stove and Furnace Company. In his younger years Roger was an avid pilot, buying his first plane in the 1930's. He was a founding member and past president of The Moncton Flying Club. During the Second World War Roger worked as a flight instructor for The Department of National Defense. He was a member of the Moncton Pawnees basketball team which won several Maritime Championships, and has since been inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame and the Moncton Sports Wall of Fame. Having retired in 1966 he enjoyed many happy years perusing various interests and gardening on his hobby farm. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son, Roger (Rod); a brother Wallace, and an infant brother Edward. He is survived by his wife, the former Lillian Ward; a daughter Beth McCaie (Roger); three grand daughters, Shelley Hewitson (Mike), Lisa Cervantes (Juan Carlos), and Heather Badry (Tony); three great grandsons, Matthew Hewitson, Lukas Hewitson, and Sebastian Cervantes; one great granddaughter, Katie Cervantes; one sister, Ada Fudge, and several nieces and nephews. At Roger's request there will be no funeral service. The family will be receiving visitors at 87 Bridge St. in Sackville on January 8, 2008 between two and four pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Internment will be held in the spring.
