Armand L. Brun
Armand L. Brun 1933 - 2008 Armand L. Brun, age 74, of Shediac passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton following a lengthy illness. He was the son of Alphonse son of Georges Brun, formerly from Caissie-Cape and of Judith daughter of Guillaume "Willie" Hébert of Shediac Bridge. He leaves his wife, Carmel (née) LeBlanc, a daughter, Natacha Darling (Dave) of Whitby, Ontario and a son André (Chantal Collette) of Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S.A. He leaves also four sisters: Léola Comeau, Édith Bourque (Léonide), Bernice Landry all of Shediac, and Bernadette Boudreau (Ronald) of Petit-Cap; four brothers: Henrie (Anna) of Dupuis Corner, Laurie (Annette) and Claude of Shediac, Bernard (Majella LeBlanc) of Haute-Aboujagane. Four siblings predeceased him: Laurie and Édith as infants, Réginald and Jean-Paul. Armand had a career as a teacher, having taught in Grand-Falls, St-Basile, Dalhousie, Rogersville and Shediac. He was also a principal in Dalhousie, Rogersville and Shediac where he retired as the principal of la Polyvalente Louis-J. Robichaud. He was a Co-op teacher in Africa and Indonesia. He held the distinction of having been the first full-time president of the New Brunswick Teachers Association (1968-69). During his mandate, the New Brunswick Teachers Federation was formed. He was also past president of the Association of the French speaking schools of New Brunswick. He served a two-year term as president of the Alumni of the Université de Moncton, and during fourteen years as vice-president of the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital Foundation. He was the founding president of the St. Valentine's Gala, which is held every year. At the local level, he was president for the construction of the rectory and bell committee for the St. Joseph parish. He also served as president of the Shediac Coop. At the national level, he served six years as vice-president of the National Council of Welfare and four years as a member of the Veterans Review and Appeal Board in Charlottetown. He was an Officer of l'Ordres des Regents of the Université de Moncton and his bursary fund Armand L. Brun provides a scholarship of a least a thousand dollars to a graduating student of la Polyvalente Louis-J. Robichaud who will attend the Université de Moncton. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to this fund would be greatly appreciated by the family. The family will receive relatives and friends at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) on Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, from 9 a.m. until time of departure (10:20 a.m.).
