BOYD: Ivan David, The death of Ivan David Boyd occurred March 12th at the Colchester Regional Hospital. Ivan was born and lived in Portaupique the son of the late Edna (Hill) and Everett Boyd. He graduated from Bass River High School and the Success Business School but remained on the family farm for most of his life. Ivan was a well known volunteer along the shores of the Cobequid Bay including the Debert Military Museum, the new Veteran’s Memorial in Bass River and many other organizations. He received a Certificate of Recognition for his service to Community and Province from the Government of Nova Scotia. He was treasurer of the Portaupique United Church for many years, on the Board of Directors for the Colchester Credit Union in Bass River and a member of the Bass River fire Brigade. He was a longtime statistician for the local baseball teams during their hay days, especially the Ironclads from Londonderry. Ivan enjoyed everything military and he amassed a great collection of military books. He is survived by brothers Blois (Rita) Boyd of Enfield and Glenn (Judy) Boyd of Trenton and Wentworth. Also surviving are sisters in-law Rose (Eric) Boyd of Ontario and Joanne Boyd (Mike) of Fort Nelson, B.C. his aunt, Edna Boyd of Barrington, N.S. and uncle Charles Boyd, N.B. nephews John Douglas Boyd of B.C. Gregory and Paul Boyd of Enfield, Kevin Boyd, Ottawa. Nieces Tanya and Lorilee Boyd of Ottawa and special niece Marcia (Sam) Coldwell of Meiklefield, N.S., several grand nieces and nephews and good friend, Conrad Babineau. He was predeceased by his parents as well as brother Eric Boyd and Eric’s daughter, Bonnie Boyd. His remains are resting at the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 today, with funeral services at Riverside United Church in Bass River on Sunday, March 15, at 2pm, Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be held in the spring in the Boyd family lot at Portaupique Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made in Ivan’s memory to the Riverside United Church or Bass River Fire Brigade.
