Istvan "Steve" Gergely Istvan "Steve" Gergely, 83, Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton City Hospital on Sunday, March 30, 2008 after a short illness. Born in Gyor, Hungary, he was the son of the late Armin and Aranka (Rosenfeld) Gergely. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a Holocaust Survivor, and came to Canada with his family during the Hungarian Revolution. Steve and his family have been settled in Moncton since 1957. He was a European master watchmaker and jeweller, and owned and operated Steve's Watch & Jewellery Ltd., for nearly fifty years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara (Szalai); sons, Peter, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Robert (Bev), Moncton; grandchildren, Laura, Toronto, Ontario, Andrew, Edmonton, Alberta, Erika and Michael, Moncton. A brother, Bela; and a sister, Magdolna predeceased him. A private shiva for the immediate family only will be held. Funeral services will take place at Tiferes Israel Synagogue, at 4:00 pm, Monday, March 31, 2008, with interment following in Tiferes Israel Cemetery, Chartersville, NB. No flowers by request.
