John W. Strayhorn
John W. Strayhorn 1938-2008 John ,70, of Hebron passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2008 at the Sussex Medical Health Center. He was born on April 13, 1938, the son of the late John M. and Annie E. (Sinclair) Strayhorn. John was born deaf and attended the school for the deaf in Halifax for his education. He also graduated from the Moncton Community College having taken Upholstery and cabinet making. He retired from the Fundy National Park where he worked as grounds keeper for over 35 years. John liked farming and took great pleasure in raising sheep. He also enjoyed doing carpentry. He was very well known throughout his community and also by his many friends of the deaf community. He was a true inspiration to many. He was a very special person who will be fondly remembered. John was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He will be sadly missed by his several cousins and numerous friends. He will be resting at the St. Stephen's United Church in Alma on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00pm. The funeral will be held at the Church on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 2:00pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating. Interment will be in the Alma United Cemetery, Alma, N.B. Donations to the West River United Church Building Fund, Bennett & Albert County Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
