Carolyn Lenore McCabe

Carolyn Lenore McCabe 1939 - 2008 A passing of another life, as must happen on the planet Earth for everyone, Carolyn was born in Nova Scotia, October 31, 1939 and always proud of that fact. A "Bluenoser" , born in a CNR railway station/house where her father was station agent - Nappan Station. The family moved to Moncton two years later where she spent her life until 1959. Those years were good and she had a wonderful family, her parents Verna (Storey) and Archie McCabe both deceased, her brothers, Stanton (deceased) and Colin. A graduate of Moncton High School and Oultons' Business College where she taught for one year and then began a journey across the country, to Winnipeg to live with her brother Stan and his wife Edna (deceased) and then with a friend from Moncton, Jacqueline Bradley. She moved to Vancouver in 1963 and enjoyed good jobs and good friends until 1969. In November 1969 she accepted a job with the Government of the Northwest Territories in Yellowknife. After spending a year in the Department of Personnel she moved to the Department of the Executive working with Commissioner Stuart Hodgson, government leaders and members of the Cabinet. She worked in various areas, Status of Women, Metric Conversion, Federal/Territorial Committees. In 1980 she was assigned to liaise with the Legislative Assembly on behalf of the Executive. She worked closely with the staff of the Assembly but especially with the Interpreter/Translation Corps (Inuit and Dene). Although suffering from health problems she continued with volunteer work after retirement. She worked with the Adult Education class of the Tree of Peace ,helping with literacy and GED preparations. She also did contract work as editor of the Hansard of the Legislative assembly. She is survived by her brother Colin (Anne), Sackville; nieces and nephews Ricky, Murray, Tracy. Kathy, Clare and Michael McCabe; an aunt and uncle Lorne and Hilda Storey of Amherst. Donations in memory of Carolyn can be made to the Salvation Army or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
