1926-2008 Dominion It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Edward 'Eddie' Binder, age 82, of Union Street, Dominion. Eddie passed away at his residence on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008. Born in Glace Bay, Eddie was the son of the late John and Christina (MacInnis) Binder. He was a retired coal miner who spent 36 years working for the Cape Breton Development Corporation. He enjoyed bowling and for many years bowled with the Colliery Bowling League. He loved watching hockey and was a die-hard Montreal Canadians fan. Eddie was a Veteran of the Second World War and served overseas in Germany. He was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay and will be remembered as a quiet man who deeply enjoyed the company of his family. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Monica (Nicholson); daughter, Norma (Stephen) MacKay, Dominion; sons, Gary, Hamilton, Ont., Dwight (Tracy), Scotchtown, Darren (Krista), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Cherice, Amanda, Stephen, Jessie, Shannon, Daniel, Brett, Drew and Rhea, great grandchildren, Gavin, Jade and Logan. He will also be dearly missed by his sister, Norma (Simon) McLean, Glace Bay; brothers, Terry (Bea), Glace Bay, Allisdair (Barb), Lower Sackville; sister-in-law, Bonnie Binder and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Eddie was also predeceased by his first wife, Jessie (Hibbs); their daughter, Carol in infancy and his brothers, Ray and Donald 'Skippy'. Visitation for Eddie Binder will be held Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Eddie can be made to the Lung Association.
