Dr. Thelma Louise Keirstead

Dr. Thelma Louise Keirstead 1913-2008 Dr. Thelma Louise Keirstead, 95, of Alma passed away peacefully on July 30, 2008 at the Kenneth Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton. Thelma was born in Alma on April 11, 1913 the daughter of the late Fred P. and Clara (Fletcher) Keirstead. Thelma was well educated and received an Honorary Doctors Degree. She taught in Nova Scotia, Hillsborough and in Alma but spent most of her career as a Professor at the Teacher's College, UNB, in Fredericton. She received many merit awards for her contribution to education. After her retirement she moved back to her precious hometown of Alma. She was very active in her community and was involved with the Alma Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Winston Churchill Chapter # 19 O.E.S. and also a member of the Alma Senior's Club. Thelma touched many lives throughout her career and with her passing the Village of Alma has lost an icon. She was respected by all who knew her and will always be remembered. She will be deeply missed by her brother, Wesley Keirstead of Nova Scotia; niece, Phyllis Dale of Victoria, B.C.; nephews, Fred Keirstead of Nova Scotia and John McLaughlin of Alberta; by her grand nieces and nephews; relatives, Pauline Keirstead, Robert and Nancy Keirstead all of Riverside-Albert. She will also be sadly missed by her close friend and caregiver, Kirstin Herta Shortt of Alma. A Memorial Service to honor Thelma's memory will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 2:00pm with Pastor Paul Steeves and Pastor Blaine Steeves officiating. Interment will be in the Alma United Cemetery, Alma. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends at the Alma Recreation Center for further sharing of memories and for refreshments.
