(MacDougall) MacAdam Milford Station/Glace Bay It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Cindy on Nov. 11, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Cindy was a trooper to a lot of close friends fighting the same illness. She displayed great strength, support and humour to all those whom she came into contact with in her and their battle. Born in Glace Bay on June 1, 1958, Cindy was a loving mother to sons, Colin Francis and Donald Colton and a dear wife to her husband and best friend Colin of 34 years. Cindy is survived by her mother, Hectorine (MacDonald) MacDougall; sisters, Heather (Edward) Burton, Janice (Tom) Moriarty and brother, Robert (Cathy MacAdam) MacDougall. Cindy was predeceased by her father, Frank MacDougall. Cindy will be sadly missed by her many brothers and sisters-in-laws and nieces and nephews, many family friends, especially Maggie and Dave Manning and Patty and John van den Hof. Cindy graduated from St. Michael Senior High School and attended St. Frances Xavier University. She was initially employed with Seaboard Industrial in Glace Bay from 1979 to 1989. Colin and Cindy moved to Milford N.S., in 1989 where they settled to continue their family and employment. Cindy worked at Milford Elementary and Riverside Education Centre for 13 years as a noon-hour supervisor. She was very active in her community as a volunteer with several groups; The Milford Recreational Hall, Milford Elementary Home and School, Hot Lunch Program, dance chaperone, etc. Cindy was very active in the Boy Scouts of Canada for 11 years holding several positions, and received The Medal of Good Service Award. She was also a volunteer for The Kidney Foundation of Canada Cape Breton Chapter & Nova Scotia Branch for several years. Cindy was a member of the nationally famous MacDougall Girls Pipe Band in Cape Breton for several years back in the '70s. Cindy enjoyed many summer vacations in Cape Breton, 'Down North' in South Harbour and Christmas Island on the Bras d'Or Lakes where she spent many great times with her family, relatives and friends. Visitation at Ettinger's Funeral Home in Shubenacadie, Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. With a memorial mass Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at Saint Bridget's Church, Shubenacadie. There will also be a visitation at Curry's Funeral Home, Glace Bay, N.S. Friday, Nov. 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church, McKays Corner Glace Bay, at 10 a.m., Saturday Nov. 15 with burial at St. Anne's Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Lions Foundation of Canada, Dog Guide Program and the Boy Scouts of Canada. Friends and family may leave condolences for the family at www.MeM.com.
