R. Winston Smith 1940-2008 R. Winston Smith, died Saturday, November 1, 2008 at The Moncton Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 68. Winston was born in Bouctouche on October 24, 1940, the son of the late Merritt and Jennie (McNairn) Smith. Winston worked for more than 35 years in the Moncton Accounting Department at CN. He was a member of the CN Pensioners Association. A NASCAR fan, he had an avid interest in vintage cars. Winston was a loyal supporter and follower of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey club and loved sports in general. He will be missed by his brothers Laurie, Jim (Claudette) and Jackie; by sisters, Helen (MacArthur) and Sherry; nieces, Sharon (Rick), Nancy (Terry), Lynn (Mike), Janice, Susan (Lou) and Jill (Murray); and nephew, Peter. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Norma (Nowlan) in 1993 and a brother, Lloyd, in 1996. By request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family interment service will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation (oncology department) would be appreciated.
