
John Hector MacAulay

Sept. 21, 1909 - Nov. 12, 2008 Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Hector MacAulay on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Dan R. and Margaret (Boyd) MacAulay. For 49 years, he worked at the Sydney Steel Plant and retired as general foreman of the Heavy Mills in 1974. He was a member of St. Andrews United Church, where he was an elder for over 50 years. He was also a member of St. Andrews Men's Club, Pensioners Club, Golden Kiwanis Club, Pensioners' Bowling League and Golden K Bowling. He was also an avid harness racing fan all his life and a great tarabish player. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Rhoda (Morrison); sons, Gordon, Sydney and Darrell, Mount William, Pictou County; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-stepchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sons, Donald, John, Ken and Philip; daughters, Barbara, Lorraine and Norma; brothers, Arch and Philip; sisters, Rodina Parker and Sarah MacLean. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Hector's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
