Arnold George Russell (Arnie)
Arnold George Russell (Arnie) 1944-2008 On November 27, 2008 Arnie lost a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away in his beloved home in Springbank, AB, surrounded by family. Born in Ottawa, ON to Mary Verna (nee Foster) and Arnold George Russell Sr., Arnie graduated in 1961 from Harkins High School and in 1966 from Surveying Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. The day after graduation he left for Calgary to begin a lifelong employment in the oil industry, where he later met and married Pamela (nee Knox). Arnie, always the engineer, continuously had a home project on his acreage to keep him and Pam engaged in life and laughter. Many adventures and memories were created when he bought his daughters their first horses, and participated enthusiastically in all their riding events. He later carried on his love for equestrians at Spruce Meadows, where he was appreciated by all for his duties as Ring Master in the International Ring A dedicated man to his family and friends, he was also a loyal hockey and golf buddy. Arnie is survived by his loving wife Pam, two daughters Tracy (Jay) Craig and granddaughter McKenna of Calgary and Christine (David) Costello and grandchildren Scout and Oliver of Fairbanks Alaska; one brother David (Margot) Russell of Fredericton and one sister Nancy (Gerald) Smith of Miramichi; nephews Peter (Melanie) Russell and Kevin (Erin) Russell and Andrew (Tasha) Smith; nieces Elizabeth Smith and Mary Jane Smith. Service was held December 1 at Springbank United Church, followed by a celebration of his life with family and friends at the Springbank Golf Links.
