James L. Steele
James L. Steele 1926 - 2009 James Steele passed away on January 17th, 2009 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital. Born in Cleburne, Texas, USA, on September 1st, 1926, he was the son of the late David C. Steele Sr. and Louise (Nelson) Steele. Jim, as he was known to family and friends received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1950 from North Texas State University and a Masters Degree in 1956 also in Denton, Texas. Jim served in the US Navy during the Second World War. Soon after the war was over he was assigned to the U.S.S. Wasp, an aircraft carrier, as a signalman. Predeceased by a brother, David Calwell and a sister, Edelle Elizabeth Steele. He and his wife Louisa (Daigle) Steele lived in Dallas, Texas for 31 years, where he was a physical education teacher for 39 years in the Dallas Independent School District. After retirement he and Louisa moved to Canada in 1997 to be closer to family and friends. He is survived by his wife Louisa, two sons; David (Nina) of Denmark, Mark (Celia) of Roundrock, Texas, three grandchildren; Juliana, Joshua, and Megan, daughter, Karrie Baez (Rick) of California, cousins Bonnie Nelson and Francis Jean Hall, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. By request there will be no viewing. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, from 1 to 2 pm followed by the Memorial Service at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home, Rev. Dr. Philip G. A. Griffin-Allwood officiating. Memorial donations to the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.
