Antoine Babineau

Antoine Babineau 1925 - 2009 ST. IGNACE, NB- Antoine Babineau, 83 of St. Ignace passed away peacefully at La Villa Maria, St. Louis de Kent on Friday, February 20th, 2009. Born in St. Ignace he was the son of the late Placide and Pelagie (Vautour) Babineau. Antoine entered the Canadian Army in December 1943 and was posted in Germany with the North Nova Scotia Highlander Regiment in 1945. Where he was a stretcher bearer until the end of the war. Discharged in 194 and then entered the NB Scottish Regiment Militia but left that year to find employment in Toronto, Ontario. He then joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp. in 1953 to 1956 where he took his medical assistant and first aid instructor courses. In 1956 he entered the Canadian Army Regular with the Queen's Own Riffles of Canada where he instructed first aid to the recruits until his release in 1956. He returned to the Canadian Medical Corp. Militia in 1956 where he was still serving as a Master Warrant Office. In 1961 he qualified as first aid instructor and instructed 300 members of the employment program militia on standard first aid. He taught members of the militia from 1961 to 1971 and was presented with the Medallion of the Saint John Ambulance in 1964. Survived by one brother Armand, sister-in-law Suzanne Babineau and brother-in-law Omer Boucher, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two sisters; Lorraine and Louise (infant) and two brothers; Irenée and Sylvain. Resting at Thompson Memorial Home, St. Louis de Kent with visitation on Tuesday from 7 to 9, Wednesday at 9:00 am until departure for funeral. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Ignace de Loyola Roman Catholic Church, St. Ignace.
