Catherine "Pearl" MacLeod

Catherine "Pearl" MacLeod 1928 - 2009 Catherine "Pearl" MacLeod , 80, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital, Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Pearl was born on November 20th, 1928 in Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Walter and Lucy (Dobson) MacDonald. They lived in Massachusetts where her father, Walter, was working as a carpenter. They eventually returned home to Lower Coverdale and built the family home across the road from her grandparents. She was the third of six children. Pearl had many fond memories of growing up in Lower Coverdale surrounded by her brother and sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. As a child she spent many hours swimming and skating at Silver Lake, attending the old schoolhouse where they took turns carrying wood and water, walking back and forth to friends' homes and in the summer much time was spent helping Grammy get ready for market on Saturday and she also had many hours of much loved piano lessons. As a teenager she enjoyed singing duets with her sister, Jean, at the Lower Coverdale Baptist Church, attending BYF with her many friends, being a counselor at Camp Wildwood in its early days, and she loved to remember her years at Moncton High School where she sang in the school choir, was one of the first students to take Home Economics and played basketball for the Lady Purple Knights. She married Bill MacLeod on July 11th, 1952, then her and Bill soon moved into her Gramma Miller's house in Dawson Settlement where they have lived ever since. Her years in Dawson were very active , attending Dawson Settlement Baptist Church where she was music director for many years. Pearl was very involved in her community and church activities, and kept busy caring for her family. She loved to be out in her beautiful yard with her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a very special lady who will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Bill; two daughters, Anne Boutilier (Bill) of Dawson Settlement and Donna MacLeod of Riverview; a special son, John MacDonald (Donna) of Riverview and by her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Paul, Elizabeth and Jonathan; brothers and sisters, Jean Mitton (Kenny) , Rae MacDonald (Mary), Beth Rogers all of Riverview; sister-in-laws, Myrna MacDonald of Riverview and Marilyn MacDonald of Moncton. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, Coleman and Rodney. There will be a time of visitation at the Albert County Funeral Home on Thursday, March 19th from 1:00pm until the time of the Funeral Service at 2:00pm. Pastor David Ross will be officiating at the service. Also the family will be meeting with relatives and friends following the service in the reception area for further sharing of memories and for refreshments. Interment will be held in the Dawson Settlement Cemetery, Dawson Settlement in the spring. For those who wish donations to Camp Wildwood would be greatly appreciated by the family.
