Ottis Lewis

Ottis Lewis 1921 - 2009 Ottis Lewis, 88 of Germain Street passed away peacefully at The Moncton City Hospital on Thursday, March 19th, 2009. Husband of 67 years to the late Jean (Geldart) Lewis who passed away on August 11th, 2008. Born on January 14th, 1921 at Steeves Mountain, son of the late Eldon and Lillian (Dunstan) Lewis. He was a veteran of WWII serving as a Corporal with the Mount-Royal Fusilliers, Sherbrooke Fusilliers and Du St. Laurent Fusilliers where he served overseas from September 4th, 1943 to February 14th, 1947. One of his favorite memories of his service overseas was when he was a driver for Colonel Gordon, who was invited to Buckingham Palace, where Dad was given the honor of having lunch with the then Princess Elizabeth and the Queen Mother. After returning home, he worked at CNR but the road always called him and he started his life long passion of Truck Driving. For many years, he owned and operated Lewis Enterprises and over the years had trucks on with RST, CNR and Day & Ross. His pass times over the last few years were gardening in the summer and watching hockey in the winter. Ottis was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He will be sadly missed by his ten children, Barbara Pearson (Neil O'Neil) of St. Thomas ON. Murray Lewis of Moncton, Graham Lewis (Dawna) of Boundary Creek, Brenda (Ronald) Atkins of Newmarket, ON. Bonnie (Jerry) Ward of Riverview, Debbie (Gary) Walthers of Moncton, Daniel (Kimberley) Lewis of Moncton, Peter (Dot) Lewis of Moncton, Marilyn (Oscar) Babineau of Moncton and Carolyn Lewis of Dieppe. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren who lovingly called him papa. Two sisters, Madeline (Leonard) Saulnier of Scoudouc, Bonnie Garland of K.E. Spencer's Nursing Home as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife Jean, Ottis was predeceased by two sons, Wayne and David, two brothers, Leveret and Joseph; as well as son-in-law, David Pearson and daughter-in-law, Debbie Lewis, also grandson, Kent Pearson. Visitation at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Memorial service will be held from the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Monday, March 23rd, 2009 at 2 pm followed by a reception in the Garden View Reception Room. Memorial donations in Ottis' memory may be made to the K.E. Spencer Nursing Home "Generator Fund" or a charity of the donor's choice.
