Austin Willis Steeves 1930 - 2009 Austin Steeves, 78, of Forest Dale Home and formerly of Edgett's Landing, the husband of the late Madeleine "Mae"(Hawkes) Steeves passed away peacefully on Friday evening , April 3, 2009 at the nursing home with his family by his side. Austin was born in Dawson Settlement, Albert County on April 9, 1930 the son of the late John "Jack " and Sadie Steeves. He worked for the Canadian Gypsum Company for over 30 years and later worked at Coca-Cola before retiring. He was a member of the Hillsborough Legion Branch # 32. He loved the outdoors and was a Honourary Member of the Shepody Fish and Game. Austin had many hunting and fishing stories and he enjoyed every minute he spent over the years in the camp and out in the woods. He also enjoyed his 4 wheeler and spent numerous hours driving through the woods of Albert County. He loved his family very much and was a devoted and loving , Husband, Dad and Papa. During the last few years of Austin's life he struggled with his health but his family was always there for him, making many visits to Forest Dale Home, they made it possible for him to attend the Albert County Exhibition this past year and he also got to go out to the camp on Thanksgiving, they always made sure he was at every special occasion. Austin was truly a very special person who will live on in the hearts of his family forever. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Rose Best (Fred) of Edgett's Landing; two sons, Glendon (Pam) of Hillsborough and Terry (Cindy) of Edgett's Landing; by his precious six grandchildren, Tammy, Tanya (Barry), Shane (Denise), Andrea, Kevin (Melissa) and Kristy; and by his treasured seven great grandchildren, Megan, Tyler Austin, Justin, Josie, Laney, Marshall and Hailey; sister, Thelma Savoie of Lower Coverdale; brothers, Carmen Steeves (Olive) of Riverview and Carl Steeves (Bonnie) of Riverview. He will also be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews and by all of Mae's family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mae ; great granddaughter, Bailey Joy Snider; and by a sister, Janet Douthwright. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Monday, April 6th, 2009 at 2:00pm with Pastor Leonard Geldart officiating. Interment will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape, N.B.at a later date. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends at the funeral home for further sharing of memories and for refreshments. For those who wish donations to the Forest Dale Home or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Forest Dale Home for the quality of care they gave to Austin over the past few years, the caring and kindness that he was shown went above and beyond the call of duty, you truly made it feel like home. Especially in the past few days of dad's life, the way you treated us and all his family has meant so much, words cannot express the gratitude and respect we have in our hearts for all of the staff and caregivers at the home.
