John Robert Leger

John Robert Leger 1917 - 2009 The death of John Robert Leger, 91, of Memramcook and formerly of Sackville, occurred at the Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital on Tuesday, April 22, 2009. Born in Middle Sackville, John was a son of the late Mathias and Edmee Leger. A former corrections officer with Corrections Canada he retired in 1979 after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II serving in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and Holland with the 104th Battery, Seventh Anti-Tank Regiment of the Royal Canadian Army. He was a life member of Dorchester Legion # 16 and a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church. He will be sadly missed by two sons: John (Barbara), Calgary, Alta. and Peter, Sackville; a brother, Camille, Gardner, Mass.; two sisters, Phyllis McPhee and Elise Landry, both of Sackville; one brother-in-law, seven sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his wife Mary Dora "Flora"; brothers: Edward (killed in WW II), Roy, Hector; Fred and Lorne and sisters Mary, and Ina. John's remains have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300), from where visitation will be held 7 to 9pm on Thursday, April 23, 2009 and Friday from 2pm until the time of departure. Funeral services will be held at 4pm on Friday, April 24, 2008 from St. Vincents, Roman Catholic Church, Sackville. A special thanks is extended to the staff at Domaine La Vallee, Memramcook for their care and kindness to John and Flora.
