Dr. Joseph Donald Vautour May 10, 1921 May 20, 2009 Our memories have become more cherished with the passing of Joseph Donald (Don) Vautour. Born May 10, 1921 in Richibucto, NB, he was the son of the late Theodore and the late Virginia (Purcell) Vautour. Besides his devoted wife of 58 years, Carmel (St. Onge) Vautour, he will be greatly missed by his five adoring children: Lise (Muncie) Booth of Abbotsford, BC, Marc (Chantal) Vautour of Hull, QC, John (Cheryl) Vautour of Maryvale, NS, Ann Vautour of Toronto, ON, and Mary Clare Vautour of Moncton, NB. He also leaves behind his sisters Florence Tassin, Ladysmith, BC, Imelda Trainor, Charlottetown, PE, and Jeannine Ladouceur, Moncton, NB, as well as twelve grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Don was a graduate of St. Thomas College, Chatham, NB, St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, NS, and Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS. He entered the Royal Canadian Dental Corps upon graduation and was a Captain in the Canadian Army during World War II. He moved to Dalhousie, NB in 1947 and began his dental practice retiring in 1986. While in Dalhousie he served as Mayor from 1960-64 and was active in the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus and the NB Dental Association. An avid sports enthusiast, Don especially enjoyed skiing, golfing, and sailing in his spare time. Don was predeceased by his infant son Edward Marc Vautour, his brothers Gerald Vautour and John (Jack) Vautour, his sister Marie (Vautour) Davies. Don will be best remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, humble nature, and incredible fortitude during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Dalhousie Palliative Care or to a charity of the donor's choice. The funeral mass will be held from St. John Bosco Church Dalhousie on Saturday May 23rd at 11am. Reception to follow. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Dalhousie.
