Robert W. Merritt

Robert W. Merritt 1923 - 2009 Miramichi - Robert William Merritt Sr., husband of the late Cecile Y. Merritt, of the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, and formerly of Oldfield Road, Miramichi, passed away at his residence, on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the age of 85. Born in Chatham, on December 7, 1923, he was the son of the late William and Laura (MacDonald) Merritt. He was a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces (Air Force) and attended St. Samuels Roman Catholic Church, Miramichi. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He is survived by one daughter, Nicole Croft (David), of Miramichi; one son, Robert D. Merritt (Irene), of Miramichi; three sisters, Betty Caron, of Miramichi, Jean Ervine, of Prince George, B.C., Marion Campbell, of Oshawa, Ont.; two brothers, James Merritt (Rita), of Fredericton, David Merritt (Shirley), of Napan; two grandchildren, Phillip and Tammy; four great grandchildren, Brandon, Alex, Cole and Hunter; one sister in law, Stella Merritt; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Cecile Y. Roy; one sister, Isabelle Giggie; one brother, Walter Merritt; two infant sisters, Mary and Rosalie Merritt. By request, there will be no visiting at the funeral home. The public are invited to attend a memorial funeral service from Adams Funeral Home Chapel, on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 2 pm, conducted by Pastor Gary Churchill, assisted by Capt. Wilson Sutton. Interment will be in All Saints Roman Catholic Cemetery, Miramichi. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Weslyan Church, Building Fund, or any charity of the donors' choice, would be appreciated by the family.
