Sylvio J. Savoie 1935 - 2009 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Sylvio J. Savoie on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at home in Grand-Barachois with his family by his side. Born September 22, 1935 in St-Pierre-de-Kent, he was the son of the late Amédé and Emerise (Boudreau) Savoie. He is survived by his wife Claudette (Arsenault), his daughter Brigitte (René Mazerolle) and his son Jean-Pierre (Becky); his brothers: Roméo (Mary King) of Halifax and Joseph (Donna) of Calgary. He will be greatly missed by brothers and sisters of his second family (the late Calixte and Albertine (Soucy) Savoie family), Dollard (Marie-Claire) of Ste-Thérèse, Qc, Yolande (Eddy Ross) of St-Luc, Qc, Roméo, Gabrielle (late Alfred Robichaud) and Évangeline of Grand-Barachois and Roger (Chantale Demers) of Saint-Saveur, Qc; his sisters-in-law: Thérèse, Gisèle, Lucille, Antoinette; his brothers-in-law: Fernando Breau and Maurice Drapeau, and by many nieces, nephews and friends. He his predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Alban, Léopold, Aldéi, Normand, Noella, Alberta and Clarence and by his brothers and sisters of his second family: Johanita, Thérèse, Yvon and Dorothée. Prior to his studies in law at U.N.B., he was a radio and television announcer/operator, director and coordinator for Radio-Canada in Moncton and a professor at the Collège d'Assomption. From 1964 he practised law in Moncton until his appointment in 1989 as a Provincial Court Judge of N.B. He was named to the Queen's Counsel in 1986 and President of the Board of Directors of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital in 1988. He was elected municipal councillor to the City of Moncton in 1983 and re-elected in 1986. He was very active in the community; director of the Boys and Girls East End Club, president of the Cathedral Parish Council in Moncton, vice-president of the Moncton Church Council, President of the Bilingual Committee in Moncton, Director of the Y.M.C.A., Director of the Moncton Club, Director of the Moncton Volunteer Centre and Director of the Opportunity for Youth. In 2001, he was appointed Judge of the Tax Court of Canada. The family will received relatives and friends at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) on Friday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 13, from 9:30 a.m. until time of departure 10:35 a.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at St-Henri Roman Catholic Church, Grand-Barachois. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
