ANNIE EDITH STEEVES

STEEVES, ANNIE EDITH - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Annie Steeves of the Jordan Lifecare Center, formerly of Elgin, on Friday July 10, 2009 at the Moncton City Hospital surrounded by her family. Annie was born June 14, 1914 on Lake Road, Albert County, the daughter of the late Leonard and Alice (Geldart) Bannister, and a step-daughter of the late Edward A. Chambers. Annie was predeceased by her parents, her step-dad; her husband Harold "Jerry" Steeves; her son Arnold Steeves; her sisters, Rhoda Bannister, Leah Graham, Helen McKeown, Doris Chambers, Evelyn Chambers and Amy Chambers; her brothers, Alton W., Emeri, Andrew, Vincent, Henry, J. Alton, and Edward W. Chambers. Annie is survived by her sons: Gordon Steeves (Elsie), and Garry Steeves (Linda), all of Elgin; sisters, Hilda MacPherson, Petitcodiac, Bertha Sketchley (Bill), Powell River, BC; brother, King Chambers, Little Current, ON; grandchildren: Jimmy, Donna (Terry), Mary Lynne, Douglas (Chrys), Lori (Bruce), and Bradley (Satara); great-grandchildren: Destiny, Zachery, Dylan, Mattea, and Tyler; as well as by a large number of nieces and nephews who affectionately called her Grammie Annie. Annie was a homemaker, and enjoyed very much taking care of her boys and her husband, and wanted nothing more than to be surrounded by her family and friends, and was well loved for her baking, especially her famous maple pie. She loved family so much, and always worried if everyone was alright, and when they left her house if they would get home alright. In her earlier years she worked in Waltham, Mass. at a university there doing housekeeping work, coming home to Mechanic Settlement in 1941 to get married, she continued to work at Sayer's Mill in Forest Glen as a cook, and at Geldart's Store as a sales clerk. Annie had a wonderful sense of humour, and loved to knit, crochet, and embroider. She loved to play Skip-Boo, and often was up late playing with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by a great many people whose lives she has touched, "Oh so gently". Visitation will be held on Sunday July 12, 2009 from 7-9 pm, and Monday July 13, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 14, 2009 at 2 pm in the First Elgin Baptist Church with Rev. James Hammond presiding. Interment will be held in the New Elgin Cemetery. Donations to the Jordan Lifecare Center, the Elgin Fire Department, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. On-line condolences are available at: www.armstrongsfh.com
