SHERMAN DOUGLAS GILDART

GILDART, SHERMAN DOUGLAS - 87 Sherman Gildart, husband, father and grandfather, passed away July 20, 2009, with his family at his side. Born in Moncton, NB on May 18, 1922, he moved to Riverview, NB in 1955 and to Halifax, NS, in 2006. Affectionately known by family and friends as Hockey Stick, Elsie or AK, he will always be remembered as a man with a passion for life, he always had a positive attitude, a kind and gentle personality, and an incredible singing voice. He summered his entire life at his beloved Parlee Beach, NB. Proud to serve his country, he was a member of the RCAF in WW II. Following military service, he enjoyed 45 years of valued and dedicated service to CN Rail, retiring as Office Supervisor of the Atlantic Region Engineering Dept. Sherman's pourdest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. Left to mourn are his wife, Alva; children Kevin (Sandra), Cheryl (Roger); and grandchildren, Clark, Marissa, Kayleigh, Katelyn and Scott. Predeceased by four sisters; he leaves his brother Gerald (Erma), many nieces, nephews and countless friends. Sherman's family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the staff of Bradford and Drummond Hall, for the exceptional care and compassion they showed Sherman during his time at these residences. Cremation has taken place, and at Sherman's request, there will not be a funeral service. A family memorial service will be held at Parlee Beach, NB. In "Dad's" words, "Take it cool, and swing easy baby!"
