MRS. REBECCA "BETTY" O'BRIEN SHAW

O'BRIEN SHAW, MRS. REBECCA "BETTY" - 71, died Sunday morning (July 26, 2009) at her son's residence, Waycross Georgia following a brief illness. She was a native of Nixon and had lived most of her life in Canada before making her home in Waycross, Georgia for the past three years. She was the daughter of the late Walter Haley and Ella Steeves Haley and was also predeceased by her first husband Frederick O'Brien. A very adventurous lady, she loved hiking, kayaking, traveling, beach-combing, and gardening, was an avid reader and loved to journal her life experiences and thoughts. She is described by her family as the "eternal optimist", as she loved to quote favorite scriptures, Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.", and John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life." She was a former RNA with Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton for 15 years, and had been active in the Red Hat Society. In Waycross she was a member of the Mall Walkers. She is survived by her husband, James Early Shaw of Waycross; five sons: Randall O'Brien (Deirdre) of Waycross, Russell O'Brien (Melanie), Raymond O'Brien (Renelle), and Travis O'Brien (Erin) all of Moncton, and William "Bil" O'Brien (Amy) of Hillsborough; two step-daughters, Dot Collier (Steve) of Douglas, and Beverly Strickland (Charlie) of Kingsland; a step son, Jim Shaw of Douglas; ten grandchildren: Matthew O'Brien, Connor O'Brien, Kade O'Brien, Clare O'Brien, Cody O'Brien, Frederique O'Brien, Liam O'Brien, Allison O'Brien, T.J. O'Brien, and Hope O'Brien.; six step grandchildren, a step great granddaughter; a sister, Kathleen McConnel (Edward) of Moncton; two brothers, Keith Haley (Elizabeth) of St. John, and Vincent Haley (Sheila) of Nixon, and numerous other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, August 1st from the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment will be at the Nixon Cemetery. If desired memorials to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family. www.keirsteads.ca
