O'NEILL, MICHAEL "MIKE" A. - Michael "Mike" A. O'Neill, 62, of Moncton, with his loving family at his side, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Friday, August 21st, 2009. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Bernard and Joan (Hartnoll) O'Neill. Mike was a former employee of the Moncton Building Inspection Department and the Town Planning Commission (Chief Building Inspector). Most recently, he worked for the Town of Riverview in the position of Director of Inspection and Enforcement and was past president of the New Brunswick Building Officials Association. Mike was involved, for many years, in working with the Boy Scouts at Birchmount School and was a former minor baseball coach. He was an avid outdoors person, enjoyed 4-wheeling, hunting, fishing, feeding the birds, working in his yard, fly tying and duck decoy carving. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and in the last years he especially enjoyed time with his four grandchildren. Mike will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 38 years, Valerie (Bell) O'Neill; children, Meghan O'Neill (Ian Sutherland), Halifax, NS, Patrick O'Neill (Charlette Peddle), Moncton; grandchildren, Hayley, Hunter, Cole, Lauren; brothers, John, Chris (Christine Allain), both of Moncton; sisters, Mary Pellerin (Ron), Maureen Trites (Tom), both of Moncton; sisters-in-law, Nancy Bursey, Karen Dennis (Terry), Ruth Gammon (Bill); many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant daughter, Beth Anne. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Sunday 7 to 9 pm.
