
FERDINAND "FERD" J. SMITH
SMITH, FERDINAND "FERD" J. - Ferdinand "Ferd" J. Smith, 74, of Moncton, with his loving wife and family at his side, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Sunday, August 23rd, 2009. Born in Fairville, he was the son of the late Nehemiah and Elena (Wills) Smith. Ferd was a retired sales manager for the furniture & machine department at Colpitts the Stationer Ltd., with 42 years service. He attended First Baptist Church and served his church and Springwater Lodge in various capacities and for a number of years, supplied the Christmas tree to First Baptist at the Christmas season. He was a member of the North West Commercial Travellers Association and the Bicentennial Skating Club. He was an avid woodworker (cabinet maker) and was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating, waterskiing, cross country skiing and was a superb canoeist. But most important were the special times he enjoyed with his wife and family. Ferd will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Marvin (Steeves); loving daughters, Linda, at home, Christine Gould (Jason), Riverview, Cathy Simon (Evar), Moncton; special grandsons, Tim, Kevin, Jeremy; sister, Marjorie Grant, Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Beryl and brother Neville. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
