RUSSELL, MARY J. (DEED) R.N. - 1917 - 2009 - Miramichi - Mary Johnstone (Deed) Russell, R.N., of Loggieville, Miramichi and formerly of Fredericton, passed away at the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, Miramichi, on Monday, August 24, 2009, at the age of 92. Born in Loggieville, on March 4, 1917, she was the daughter of the late William (Willie) and Jean (MacDiarmid) Russell. She was a nurse by profession and a Veteran of the Second World War, serving in Canada with the Royal Canadian Navy as a Nursing Sister, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. Following the war, she worked as an R.N. and prior to her retirement, was the Administrator for the New Brunswick Nurses Association. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bertha Cox, of Charlottetown, P.E.I.; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Florence Hutchinson, Winnifred (Bill) Weeks and Vera Manderson; two brothers, Harold and Wilmer Russell. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Wednesday evening only, from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Knox United Church, on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at 11 am, conducted by Rev. David Cleveland. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Pine Grove Cemetery (New Vault Fund), or any charity of the donors' choice, would be appreciated by the family.
