68, Sydney Mines The family of Sheldon Kennedy Jones regrets to inform you of his death, which occurred at the VG Hospital in Halifax on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of Mabel (MacKay) Jones, a resident of the Northside Guest Home, and the late Garfield Jones. Following his retirement in 1992, after 32 years of service with the Cape Breton Development Corp., Sheldon could be seen throughout the neighbourhood during his much loved daily walks. Reading, keeping up on current affairs and his love of gospel music filled his days. He enjoyed his time spent as a volunteer with the veterans at Harbour View Hospital, Sydney Mines, and for this work he was awarded The Maritimer of the Week. Survived by his wife, Grace (MacFarlane); daughters, Wendy (Glen Baker), Halifax, Melanie (Bernie) Tobin, Moncton, Heather (James) Tucker, Oromocto, and Lindsay (Dave MacLeod), at home. Grandchildren Brayden, Alexander, Mathew, Brett and Hailey. Brother, Connie; sisters, Marlene (George) Lovell, Miriam (Bernard) Tobin, Garland (Ken) Stubbert, Evelyn (Lawrence) Howard; and also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman, Sydney Mines. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A service of celebration for the life of Sheldon will be held at Carman United Church, Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines, Dec. 09, 2008, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Diane MacVicar and Rev. Wayne MacLeod officiating. Committal to follow at Brookside Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the church.
