New Waterford The sons, daughters and grandchildren of Jessie Marion (MacLeod) Detienne regret to announce her passing on Dec. 4, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her family. Born in New Waterford, Jessie was the daughter of the late Neil D. and Isabella (MacDonald) MacLeod and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Jessie was a member of Calvin United Church and in her younger years belonged to the UCW. She enjoyed gardening and sitting on her patio in the summer. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Surviving are her two sons, David (Linda), Wayne, both of Dartmouth; three daughters, Lorraine (Mickey) MacDonald, Arlene Detienne, both of New Waterford, Brenda Detienne, Dartmouth; grandchildren, David (Jaralin) Detienne, Vancouver, B.C., Julie Detienne, Dartmouth, Jennifer MacDougall, Red Deer, Alta., Kristopher and Meagan MacDougall, New Waterford, and Jason MacDonald, Halifax. Jessie was also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George, sisters, Isabell MacDonald, Mary Mitchell, Jean Sedore, Christina MacLeod, brothers, Donald, John Dan, Murdoch, Norman, Charlie, Allister and Calvin and Robert in infancy. Visitation will be held today, Saturday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral service will take place 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7 at Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will follow in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown. Jessie's remains will be taken to the church at noon Sunday. Donations in her memory may be made to Calvin United Church or a charity of one's choice.
