1926-2008 Glace Bay It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care facility surrounded by her family. Mom was born in Glace Bay, and a life-time resident of Arthur Street in the Sterling. She was the daughter of the late Murdock and Lizzie MacDonald. Mom graduated from Normal College in Truro and taught Grade 3 in New Waterford. Mom was an avid reader. She also loved working in her garden and enjoyed her many travels. Mom is survived by her daughters, Lillian (Bryan), Jean, Susan (Clifford); sons, Gerald Jr., Damian (Mary); grandchildren, Derek (Kristen), Laurie Jean (Mark), Cindy, Sarah, Angus and three great-grandchildren, John, Matthew and Mary. She is also survived by her sister, Jean, sisters-in-law, Lillian, Marjorie and Torchy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband, Gerald, son, Christopher, in infancy, sister, Sadie, brothers, Buddy and Bumper. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Leo's Church, Glace Bay. A private family burial will follow.
