J. LAURIE CORMIER

CORMIER, J. LAURIE - 1921-2009 - J. Laurie Cormier, 87, of Villa du Repos and formerly of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Thursday, October 29th 2009 at his residence, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer. Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late André and the late Belsémé (née: Surette) Cormier. Prior to retirement in 1982, Mr. Cormier had worked in the engineering department for the C.N. He was a veteran of WW II, served with the RCAF "427 Squadron" and became a P.O.W. in December 1943. A monument was erected in the " J. Laurie Cormier P.O.W. Park" in Lakeburn, NB to honor his service to the country. He was a parishioner of Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB. Laurie will be dearly missed by his four children; James (Tara) of Edmonton, AB, Peter (Lorraine) of Dieppe, Anne (Luc Melanson) of Saint-Anselme and John (Janet) of Moncton; six grandchildren: Natalie, Patrick, Richard, Caroline, Delia and Eric; a special friend of many years, Leonie Roy as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (née: Gaudet) in 1988; six brothers: Marcelin, Léo, Norman, Andrew, Joe and Valerie and also by one sister, Dorilla. Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, (857-1901), on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm and also on Monday from 10 am until time of departure. Funeral mass will be celebrated from Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB on Monday, November 2nd 2009 at 11 am. Interment in the Saint-Anselme Parish Cemetery, Dieppe, NB. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or a memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
