MARGOT ELIZABETH FOLSTER

FOLSTER, MARGOT ELIZABETH - Margot Elizabeth Folster died November 5, 2009 in the palliative care unit of the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton, following a year-long illness. Born in 1937, Margot was the daughter of M. Lillian (née Robertson) Pond and the late Theodore M. Pond of Fredericton. She is survived by her mother, her daughters Tracy, of Saint John, Natalie and her partner, Frederick Welsford, of Hammond River, and Andrea and her husband, David Eidt, of Fredericton, and by her grandchildren, Joshua Eidt and Anna Welsford, and by Sean and Michael Eidt. Also surviving are her partner, Maurice Cormier, of Shediac, sisters Nancy, of Fredericton, and Sandra, of Burnaby, B.C., brother Theodore Pond and his wife Paula, of Upper Gagetown, her former husband, David Folster, of Island View, her aunt, Lois Dalcourt, of Saint John, Maurice's daughter Brigitte, of Shediac, his son Denis Cormier and wife Lise and their children Maxime and Xavier, of Saint John, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Margot was a graduate of Fredericton High School and the University of New Brunswick, where she majored in biology. Before her marriage, she worked in hospital laboratories in Fredericton and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. After moving back to Fredericton, she raised her young family and eventually returned to UNB to study engineering. She subsequently worked at the New Brunswick Department of the Environment and as a Director of Unit Operations at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. As a young woman, Margot was a championship golfer at the Fredericton Golf Club, and she continued to enjoy the sport in later years. She was an excellent skater and an avid cross-country skier. She was greatly interested in house design, and developed the plans for her first home at Island View. Margot created beauty wherever she went, and she made everyday events special. She was a gentle, caring, beautiful person who loved the natural world, books, gardening, music, and the New Brunswick countryside. Most of all, she loved her family and was utterly devoted to her daughters and grandchildren, cherishing the Summer days she spent with them on Grand Manan and Whitehead islands. A memorial gathering of Margot's family and friends will be held at 22 Smith Ave., in Shediac, on November 11, 2009 between 2:00 and 6:00 pm. In the Spring, her ashes will be scattered at a lovely place near the ocean on Grand Manan Island.
