APPLEBY, DONALD F. - 1919-2009 - Donald Frederick Appleby of Moncton passed away on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 at The Moncton Hospital. Born April 16th, 1919, he was the son of the late David and Christina (Steeves) Appleby of Chipman, NB. He is survived by his wife Lorena Appleby; stepsons John Vickers (Adrienne) of Saint John, NB, and Rick Vickers of Toronto. He is also survived by a brother, Hood Appleby, Miramichi, NB. He was predeceased by his son, Lowell Appleby of Hamilton, ON; his sister, Ethel Fudge, Chipman, NB; and granddaughter Pamela Vickers. Also surviving are his five grandchildren, four great-grand children and his nephews. A Veteran of the Second World War, he retired from the CNR in 1982 after 45 years of service. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch #6, a Life Time Member of the Air Force Veterans Club, and a member of the 31 Air Force Veterans Club. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards, and was well known for his sense of humor. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a public Legion Service on Tuesday, November 10th, at 1:45 pm at Fair Haven Funeral Home, immediately followed by the Memorial Service at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. A reception for Donald's friends and family will follow the service in the Garden View Reception Room. Private interment in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, or a memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
