ATKINSON, GORDON ROBERT (1947 - 2009) - The death of Gordon Robert Atkinson, husband of Alida, occurred at his residence on Wednesday December 2nd. Born in Calhoun, NB on August 31, 1947 he was the son of the late Walter and Ivah (Lewis) Atkinson. Gordie had been employed as a Carman with CNR prior to his retirement several years ago. He was involved in both minor hockey as a coach for 17 years and as a coach in minor baseball for 12 years. He also enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends. He had also attended Calhoun Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Alida, his children Davida Burrel (Mike), Robbie (Nicole), Mark (Josee), his step children Christopher Dery (Valene) and Cynthia Dery (Jason), his brothers Leonard and Gerry, his sister June as well as 12 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a special friend and brother Eddie Caissie. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Basil, Floyd, Stan and Brian. The family will be receiving visitors at Cadman Bowness Funeral Home (857-1110) 114 Alma Street Moncton with visiting hours on Friday December 4th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral service will be on Saturday December 5th at 3 pm at Sunny Brae Baptist Church Elmwood Drive Moncton, followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will be in Calhoun Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Calhoun Baptist Church Building Fund, Moncton Minor Hockey or the Extra Mural Hospital.
