GOODWIN, MABEL AGNES - The death of Mabel Agnes Goodwin occurred on the day of her 93rd Birthday, December 12, 2009 in Port Elgin, NB. Born in Baie Verte, she was a daughter of the late Joel and Maude (Bell) Chapman. Mabel was a member of the Trinity United Church in Port Elgin. She was employed at the Woolen Mill and at Grant's Store in Port Elgin and then was a switchboard operator for Enterprise Foundry in Sackville until retirement. She was an avid quilter and lover of cats. Mabel was very independent and mowed her own lawn until the age of 90. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, but will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Mae Chapman, & Myrtle Chapman; many great-nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Whitney; special friend, Art Pooley; sister Gertrude McPhee; and brothers George, Lyall, Bruce and Harold. Mabel's remains have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin (538-2241). Visitation will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from 12:30 pm until the time of the funeral at 2 pm. Rev. Dr. James Shaffner officiating. Interment will be held in the Fernwood Cemetery in Port Elgin in the spring. At the family's request, donations in Mabel's memory may be made to the Heart And Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice. www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
