90, New Glasgow Doris Edith McPherson, 90, of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Belmont Street, Stellarton and Glace Bay, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, in the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Birch Grove, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Elijah and Drucilla (Hiscock) Clarke. Doris was a resident of the Glen Haven Manor the past two and a half years, having previously resided at Belmont Street, Stellarton and Glace Bay. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, and a former member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed various seniors' activities in Stellarton, after she moved there in 2000. While living in Glace Bay, she was involved with the Citizens Service League, taught nursery school and worked with Books on Wheels at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Surviving are son, Rev. Charles (Colleen), Stellarton; a sister, Phyllis LeClaire, Hamilton; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, a daughter, Karen Jean, brothers, Edward, Norman, Jobe and William, sisters, Emmeline, Mildred and Mae. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday from the First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, with Rev. Richard Sand officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial of ashes will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay in the spring. Donations in memory of Doris may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, or to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay.
