CAMPBELL, RAYMOND PARKER - May 9, 1927 - January 26, 2010 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Saint John, NB to the late Malcolm Albert and Annie (Stevens) Campbell. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, G. Geraldine "Gerrie" (Boyer) Campbell; two daughters, Elaine (Denis Ryan) and Diana (Michael Boudreau) both of Fredericton; two grandsons, Stephen Boudreau (Jennifer) and John Raymond Kipping (Cassandra) both of Fredericton and two sisters, Myrtle Stewart of Moncton and Melita Britt of California and several nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his parents, sisters Dorothy and Elizabeth; brothers Douglas, Andrew, Kenneth, Malcolm and Herbie. Ray had a very distinguished career that started in 1942 when he enlisted in the Canadian Forces to serve his country in WWII at 15 years of age. He then went on to work at the DVA in Saint John at the end of WWII where he continued to serve in the Reserve Army and where he was promoted to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major (Chief Warrant Officer). He moved his family to Fredericton in 1964. While working for the Province of New Brunswick, he was appointed Deputy Minister, a post he held for more than 20 years. Ray was also appointed Chair of several committee's and boards including the Minimum Wage Board and most recently Chair of the Workplace Health, Safety & Compensation Commission. Ray was a devoted father and family man. He touched the lives of everyone he met in his 83 years with his sense of humour and "joie de vivre". Ray lived a good life and developed many good friends along the way. His legacy and memory will live on through those people. Ray enjoyed softball and hockey in his youth and golfing, travelling, dancing, music, billiards, gardening, reading and good conversation in his adult life. The thing he cherished most was the time spent with his wife, family and friends for gatherings, meals and cookouts. He loved his family very much and spoke proudly of all their accomplishments. He often spoke fondly of his dogs, especially his beloved Bonnie. There will be no visitation or service per his request but a celebration of his life will take place on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at his home located at 5 Whittaker Road, Rusagonis, NB. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Fredericton SPCA or the Canadian Cancer Society.
