The passing of Laura Marjorie Smith of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Harold Smith occurred on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Hanwell Special Care Home. Born on June 23, 1918 in Nixon, NB, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Adella (Collier) Geldart. Laura taught school in the New Brunswick school system for 30 years. She was a member of the Nashwaaksis Baptist Church, the WMS, Stephen Ministry, Christian Women’s Club, The Sharing Way and was also a Sunday School Teacher. She belonged to the retired Teachers Association. With her gift in writing Laura wrote ten books of poetry. Laura is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Brian) Stewart of Calgary, AB and Judy (Lawrence) Somerville of Fredericton, NB; sons, Brian (Mary) Kaye of Fredericton, NB and Harvey Kaye of Toronto, ON; step children, Harry (Dot) Smith of Moncton, NB, Greta (Glendon) Rae, Glenna Phillips and Ruby (Wayne) Waugh all of Fredericton, NB; four grandchildren, Troy (Valerie) Somerville of Moncton, NB, Christa (Bill) Chase-Somerville of Oromocto, NB, Martin Kaye and Laura Kaye both of Hanwell, NB; 13 step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Eileen Geldart. Besides her husband and parents, Laura was predeceased by her sisters, Hazel, Edna, Kathleen and Gladys; brothers, Harold, Roy and George; first husband, Donald Kaye.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Nashwaaksis Baptist Church on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Ross officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Troy Somerville, Andrew Waugh, Martin Kaye, Neville Gosman, Rod Flowers and Robert Brewer. Interment will take place in Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Nashwaaksis Baptist Church, Green Hill Lake Camp or the Sharing Way (Relief Organization) would be appreciated by the family.
