
Norma Georgina MacDonald
Norma Georgina MacDonald, 76, recently of Bedford, formerly from New Town, Guysborough County.
It is with deep sadness that the family wishes to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in the QEII Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.
Born in New Glasgow, N.S., on July 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret (MacQueen) Tickner.
She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Lowell MacDonald in 1973.
She proudly raised a family of six daughters and one son.
She is survived by Margaret (Vernon) Mac Keen, Beaver Bank; Nancy (Raymond) Buckland, Calgary, Alberta; Elizabeth (Stewart) Parkinson, Victoria, B.C.; Isabel (Michel) Hache, Halifax; Dorothy (Richard) Moore, Halifax; Gordon (Carmel) MacDonald, Guysborough; and Angela (Joel) Carroll, Beaver Bank; 16 cherished grandchildren, Tanya (Floyd) Bouchie, Kelsey Buckland, Candra (Nicholas) Kaiser, Kris MacKeen, Thalia, Craig, Klarika and Braden Parkinson, Renee and Justin Hache, Hilary and Olivia Hendsbee, Alexandra and Lowell MacDonald, Sean and Cole Carroll; two adored great-grandaughters, Lauren Bouchie and Reese Kaiser.
Also survived by one brother, Forbes Tickner, Rockland, Mass.; and sister-in-law, Christine Tickner, Sydney.
She will be lovingly missed by her in-laws as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and her husband, Lowell, she was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Ernest Tickner.
Norma was formerly employed at Sherbrooke Village, McLaughlin’s Florist and as Municipality of St. Mary’s Returning Officer.
She was a member of Bethany United Church and was actively involved in her church and community.
She cherished her family and made them her priority in life. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, as well as quilting, baking and Christmas decorating.
The family wishes to thank the staff of 5A, Medical Oncology Staff, Dr. Colwell, nurse Laverne, Violet and the Pallative Care Team, and VON for their compassionate care.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to H.W Angus Funeral Home, King St., New Glasgow, N.S. Visitation will be at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 1.
A service celebrating Norma’s life will be held at Zion Presbyterian Church, East River St. Mary’s on Tuesday, March 2 at 2 p.m., officiated by Norma’s minister and special friend, Derek Elsworth.
Interment in New Town Cemetery. Reception to follow at East River St Mary’s Firehall.
