Young, Richard Stewart - 68, of River Philip passed away quietly at home Friday, February 26, 2010 with his loving wife by his side. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Alva and Marjorie (Mitchell) Young. Richard worked in the Halifax area for many years with Twin Cities Dairy and then Farmer’s Dairy. After moving to River Philip, he was the superintendent of the Springhill Golf Club for over 25 years. Along with his love for music, Richard enjoyed playing cards, bowling and old time dancing with his wife Evonne. Working with his hands, tending to flower beds and the garden was when he was happiest. He is survived by his wife the former Evonne Brophy; sons, Christopher (Akiko) Deir, Toronto; Trevor Young, Dartmouth; daughters Jeannie (Tommy) Walters, Eastern Passage; Bonnie Deir, Dartmouth; Alice Young (Vance), Dartmouth; Angela (Tom) Dooley, Dartmouth; brothers, Alva Jr. (Marina), Brandon, MB; Darrell (Gail), Chezzetcook; Gerald (Debbie), River Philip; Clifford (Carolyn), Eastern Passage; Eric (Madelyn), Eastern Passsage; sisters, Marie Hennigar, Manitoba; Ida Young (Gerry Legere), Cornwallis Park, NS; Velma (Ron) Shick, Dartmouth; Thelma (Doug) Seager, Elmsdale; Donna Young; Enfield; Elizabeth Young, Cow Bay; grandchildren, Richard, George, Christina, Genevieve, Sara, Jacob, Katrina, and Kentaro; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930), with Ruth Gamble officiating.
